    If you're a beginner and you really want to squeeze the most enjoyment out of your surfing experience, you need to pick the board with the right amount of volume for your skill level. Volume simply refers to the amount of foam that is floating you. It's not rocket science, the longer, thicker and wider your surfboard is, the more volume it has and the more buoyant it will be.

     

    Why is buoyancy so important for beginner surfers? There are 3 reasons.

    1. Paddling is easier because there is less drag through the water.
    2. Increased wave count due to easier paddling.
