Like it or not, the cutback is, and always will be, an integral part of a full bag of tricks. Watch a good surfer in action and, whether you're watching Tom Curren or Dane Reynolds, you can be guaranteed that they have one thing in common – they know how to bury a rail.

The bottom turn is perhaps one of the most overlooked aspects of good, solid top to bottom surfing. Today, we've got beginners doing their darndest to launch airs like Jordy before they've even learnt how to stay in a wave's sweet spot.
But my guess is that, if you were to ask any of today's top surfers about the importance of a good bottom turn, they'd tell you that it is fundamental to good surfing. Just watch their surfing, it speaks volumes.
