Weather or NOW?

  • _KNY0655

Grey skies have opened their arms to this latter segment of January. I don’t like to complain as we are much more comfortable in our current house on rainy days compared to our comrades on the Yeti farm…but I am a sucker for some sunshine.

Banging out deadline after deadline I find myself craving for Ben Harper’s voice to kiss my ears, singing “she’s only happy in the sun…”

I’ve always found it amusing the way humans communicate with each other about the weather. Conversation starts, mood breakers, silence stoppers….

    “So over this rain?”

    “Wet enough for ya?”

    “F**K these onshores”

I wonder if we are starting something deeper in our conscious by labelling the weather always as ‘good’, ‘bad’, or even simply ‘fine’. One of the first things you learn when studying a language is how to comment on the weather…

Perhaps there’s a different angle we could take, like “how’s this weather we’re having?” – an attempt to propose that there is no “good” nor “bad” weather, simply a state of the NOW.

Hmmm. Whatever. But the thoughts inspired me to share some photos. In early December we asked Patagonia Ambassador Belinda Baggs to come and stay at the farm with us and shoot for a couple weeks. Then we thought we should invite our friends Johnny Abegg and Mick Waters to come and play too. In two weeks we experienced all four seasons! From the bluest skies to torrential rains in minutes, getting stuck on the beach shooting with cameras and kids in unrelenting downpours, nature threw everything at us.

So here are a sneak peak of the pics…

Some are grey, some are sunny, decide yourself the “good” or “bad”…and re-live the NOW.
