General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — October 31

Depending how it is going, this place can be suitable for surfers with experience or absolute beginners. The fall is the best time for bigger waves, summer is good for small and steady learning waves.

Beach

A typical white sand beach, it’s clean and access is easy. It’s hot and humid in summer but in fall the temperatures will drop to low teens and winter can get below freezing, so if you come here then you’ll the full kit including boots, gloves and a hood.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The only good wind direction here is from the west, while the swell is best when coming from the northeast. It will start working at less than 1m, but will build up to about 2m in summer and 2.5m or so in the fall. It breaks both right and left, against a sandbar, and the waves are nothing to get too excited about but are generally considered fun to ride. A typical day will have a short length of about 50m, but a good day when the hurricane swells are rolling in can see it get to a long 250m or more. It’s a busy spot in summer, packed out during the week and worse at weekends, so be patient and wait your turn for a spot or come in the winter when it’s empty.

Facilities

There are several parking lots along the sea front, but they fill up rapidly in summer. There is a beach patrol if you get into trouble, and most of the properties on the seafront are residential so you won’t find many facilities right by the beach, although there is plenty once you get into the main part of the city.

Safety

There are currents to be aware of here, but only when the big swells are coming in – most other times, the currents are easy to handle.
