General Information

Level:0-8 Season:March 31 — October 31

This is a very consistent spot, providing surf up to 150 days a year, and although many surfers won’t find it to be much of a challenge it is a good place for beginners. The locals are pretty friendly and are always happy to help out new surfers, provided they come with the right attitude.

Beach

The beach here is pretty long and sandy, but it’s easy to miss if you aren’t wide awake. From Charleston, drive over the Isle of Palms bridge then take the left, and you’ll find yourself on an s-bend. Park up here, then walk down to the beach. During the week it is quiet, but gets crowded at weekend.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

Wind is steady here and typically from an east direction. The swell needs to be running northwest, west or southwest, and it works on both rising and falling tides. The waves start working at about 1m and while they don’t really get much bigger than that, they are hollow, fast but not too powerful – just the thing for learning on. The ride is usually pretty short, but on a good day you might see up to 150m. Longboards are popular here.

Facilities

This spot is right in Charleston, and there are plenty of facilities. Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina and is geared up to handle tourists. It has a unique culture, and plenty of places of interest such as historic buildings and museums

Safety

There aren’t any dangers here, just get out and enjoy it. Lifeguards patrol the beach.
