General Information

Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

This is a bit of a quirky and fickle spot, and while it doesn't go off very often those who are here when it does will recognise it as a fantastic place to surf. It is suitable for all surfers, regardless of experience, and the location is fantastic.

Beach

Don't get excited about the size of the beach, it's named for the distance from the city rather than the length of it. It's sandy and clean though, and is in a fairly nice unspoiled setting. Most people tend to drive straight past this spot, which means its very rarely crowded – crowds only build up once the word has got around that it is going off. Water temperatures are on the cool side, with the average being a maximum of about 15° C in September and about 12° C in the winter months.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

This place works with the wind coming from the north or the north-west and the swell coming from the north, north-west, west, south-west or south. It is best on a rising tide, at the low or mid tide position, and will start working at about 1 m and hold up to about 2.5 m in summer or 4 m in winter.  It is a reef break, both right and left, and the waves aren't too fast or powerful and are quite often ledgey.  Length is good and even a normal day can see up to 150 m, while on a good day you can get between 200 and 300 m.

Facilities

There are no facilities on this beach, and parking is on the dirt track just off the main highway. Fortunately, you are only 3 miles out of Santa Cruz, and anything you need can be found there.

Safety

Mind the rocks, there are quite a few submerged around here, but other than those there is nothing to worry about.
