General Information
Level:4-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Another spot which is conveniently in the heart of Santa Cruz, this one is for experienced surfers and is definitely not a shortboard beach. It gets its name because it's a nudist beach, and you'll need an access key to get on here.
-
Beach
-
The beach is just a narrow, short strip of sand near 41st Avenue. You don't tend to get many surfers out during the week, but it can get quite crowded at weekend especially when the weather is good. You can expect the water temperatures to be the same as the rest of this area, averaging about 15° C in summer and 12 or 13° C in winter.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Conditions are best when the water is at the low or mid tide position, and the swell will start working at 1 m to 1.5 m before holding up to over 4 m on a good day. It breaks fairly regularly, and breaks to the right over a reef. The waves are fairly ordinary in terms of speed and power, but length is pretty good and will be between 200 and 300 m on a normal day but up to 500 m on a good day.
-
Facilities
-
There are no facilities on this beach at all, and parking is only available on the nearby streets. Santa Cruz is a city which is well set up for visitors though, and anything you need is within easy reach, including decent nightlife when you are done surfing.
-
Safety
-
There are plenty of locals around here and if you don't have the experience to ride it properly they let you know quickly. It's also a nudist beach, which can be more frightening than the waves sometimes.
