General Information
Level:0-4 Season:May 1 — October 31 -
This is a beginner’s wave that won’t hold much interest for those with experience. It’s in a nice location and right in the city so it’s convenient for everything you need.
-
Beach
-
The beach is clean and sandy, and the spot you want is just south of a rock jetty. It’s generally warm and humid in the summer, maybe reaching 30c, but if you come here in late fall you’ll need a thick suit and a hood as the temperature drops to the low teens.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The only decent wind direction here is from the northeast, while the only good swell comes up from the northwest. Frequency isn’t too bad, and when the wind and swell come together the waves start working at about 1m before holding up to over 2m. You can only surf at high tide here, and it’s fairly flat in summer, so the best time to come is late summer or fall when the storm surges make the ocean a bit livelier. It is a beach break, both left and right, and the waves are pretty ordinary but don’t have very much power behind them. Length is usually around 50m, but can be well over 100m on a good day. It is a crowded spot in summer, even on weekdays, and weekdays you’ll hardly be able to move for surfers.
-
Facilities
-
There is parking nearby if you get here early enough, otherwise you’ll have a walk in. The beach is public and has lifeguards on duty, and there are plenty of places close by where you can get a drink or food, although the building right by the boardwalk here tend to be private residential rather than shops.
-
Safety
-
Mind the currents and the rocks around the jetty, and don’t push in on the locals.
