General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Actually the beach is only about half the length that the name implies, but who's counting? The huge sand dunes that make up the beach look more like they should be in an African desert and are an awesome sight to behold. It is mostly surfers who come out here, although there are also increasing numbers of windsurfers and kite surfers too.

Waipapakauri Beach, to give it its proper name, is huge although you probably guessed that from the name. It is sandy and clear, and is never crowded. In fact, it's so big that no matter how many people are out here you can always find a wave with nobody on it.

Wind&Waves
-
The swell is best here when it is coming from the south-west and the wind is blowing from the east. It starts working at less than 1 m and will hold up to about 1.5 m, and the time to hit it is either mid or high tide and on a rising tide. It is a fairly standard beach break, both right and left, and despite not being very big the waves are fast and often hollow. Length on a normal day will be between 50 and 150 m, and on a good day can be over 200 m and approaching 300 m.
