- The name might have given away the fact that this isn't exactly the most picturesque place you can surf, but it's a really good break with very consistent conditions that should give something to entertain even the pickiest surfer.
- This spot seems to pick up south swells better than most of the other places in the County. It is a heavy wave that is really only suited to those with a fair bit of experience, and it is fairly consistent.
- This might break only rarely, no more than a few days a year, but if it is going off you would be a fool to miss it. It is a fantastic wave that will challenge experienced surfers despite the fact that it doesn't get very big.
- This is a very popular spot for beginners, though you'll also find the odd surfer with experience who is just out to practice a little. The waves here tend to be pretty consistent, even if the same can’t be said for those who are riding them.
- Also known as Muscle Shoals, this spot offers a couple of decent peaks that are suitable for experienced surfers. It is a little bit less intense and has a better atmosphere than its neighbour Rincon, though the waves aren't quite as good.
- This is a place for experienced surfers who enjoy a technically difficult wave and don't mind if it doesn't get particularly big. It is a bit of a forlorn place, but that won't matter to anyone who is serious about surfing here.
- Situated on Portugal's western coast in the province of Lisbon, lies the beach at Sines South. It is a popular spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not advisable for novices to practice here because of the rocky harbor mole situated to the right of the beach. It does get busy with tourists and sun goers during the busy summer months and because of this there may well be surfing restrictions in place. You might want to check this out before you set off. The best times to surf are from March through to September.
- Situated on Portugal's North Atlantic coast lies the beach at the north end of the town of Sines. It is a popular place for surfers, kite surfers and wind surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not advisable for beginners to practice here because there are large rock hazards situated just off the beach. There may well be surfing restrictions in place during the summer months so it would pay you to check this out before you set off. The best times to surf are from April through to September when the thermals blow.
- Situated in an estuary Just off Portugal's North Atlantic coast at Figueira Da Foz lies the beach at Rio Mondego. This river is a great spot for wind surfers of intermediate and expert levels but it is not advisable for beginners to practice here because of the strong tidal currents, plus there are overhead power lines to be aware of. The good thing about this spot is that you can ride all year round as there are no restrictions.
- Situated on Portugal's western coast around 75kms north of the capital Lisbon lies the beach at Praia De Vieira. It is very popular with watersports enthusiasts of intermediate and expert abilities and in fact has a surf school where you can rent equipment and hone your skills. It is possible to surf all year round here. However, there are lifeguards all year, so in order to keep them on your side try to be considerate towards wimmers and beach goers during the hot summer months.
- Situated in a perfect crescent shaped bay on Portugal's north Atlantic coast lies the beach at Praia De Peniche De Cima. This spot caters for watersports enthusiasts on every level. In fact, it is a great place for surfers, kite surfers and wind surfers to hone their skills. There are restricted zones and time restrictions throughout July and August, but apart from this, you're able to surf all year round.
- Lying 80 kms north of Lisbon on Portugal's western coast lies the beach at Lagoa De Obidos. The beach itself faces the North Atlantic but backs onto a lagoon. It is a very popular spot for surfers, kite surfers and wind surfers of all levels and abilities. The best times to surf are from May through to September. During the summer there is no surfing allowed on the lagoon side, but it is okay on the Atlantic side.
- Situated on Portugal's “silver coast” lies the beach at Figueria Da Foz. This is a popular spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not advisable for beginners to practice here because of the rocky harbor mole lying at the right hand side of the beach. The season is from March through to September, however there may well be some restrictions in place during June, July and August.
- Situated on Portugal's silver coast in the district of Coimbra, not far away from the town of Figueira Da Foz lies the beach at Costa De Lavos. It is a busy spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert ability. It is not advisable for beginners or novices to practice here because of the wave breakers/groynes dotted all along this stretch of coastline. There may well be surfing restrictions in place during the summer months, so it might be advisable to check this out before you set off. The best times to surf here are from April to September.

It is a very popular spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. There is a large surfing school here where you can learn, as well as rent equipment. You can surf most of the year, however during July and August be mindful that there are designated swimming zones which should be avoided.
- Comporta is not as well visited as other more popular destinations in Portugal, which is quite surprising as this area boasts miles and miles of unspoilt beaches. Having said this, it is quite a popular spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. The main surfing season here is from March through to September. However, there might well be surfing restrictions in place during June, July and August so it may pay to check this out before you set off.
- Gafanha is situated near the most northerly point of the Aveiro Lagoon in north west Portugal where its vast expanse of flat water makes it a great spot for kitesurfers of all abilities. The main season is March to September but off season is possible.
- The Ria De Aveiro is a coastal lagoon which is located on the Atlantic coast of Portugal. The Aveiro Lagoon, as it is called, is named after the city of Aveiro which is the nearest city to the lagoon. It extends from Ovar to to Mira and is very shallow with several rivers flowing in to it. It is separated from the sea by a long line of sand dunes, of differing widths with the only break being an artificial sand bar which was built in the 19th century. The delta has 4 main arms, one of which is Murtosa and flat water which mkes this spot a good place for windsurfers and kitesurfers.

It is separated from the sea by a long line of sand dunes, of differing widths with the only break being an artificial sand bar which was built in the 19th century. Costa Nova is a spot on the river immediately next to Barra Beach and is a good spot for kitesurfers of all abilities.

The spot has flat water and good wind which makes it ideal for kitesurfing at all levels.
- Moledo do Minho has been a famous tourist resort in North portugal since the beginning of the 20th century and is often preferred by tourists to the beaches in the south of Portugal. It is in a beautiful spot surrounded by the Mata Nacional do Camarido protected area and is usually very windy which makes it ideal for surfers of all types and abilities. The main season is March to September but all year round surfing generally takes place with surfers moving further north to the river mouth during the winter months.
- Matosinhos is located north west of Oporto looking out onto the Atlantica Ocean. It houses the biggest artifical port in Portugal and has long been associated both with fishing and sea tranport industries. Today, Matosinhos is geared towards tourism and its beach is regularly used throughout the year by surfers of all types and abilities. The main season is March to September.
- Situated between Porto and Ovar is the beach of Praia de Sao Pedro Da Maceda which is a good spot for surfers of all types and levels of ability. It is not as popular as some of the beaches along this stretch of coast but is a good one to visit in the summer when the sea is small and other beaches are flat because you may be lucky with the conditions here. The season is from March to September although off season is possible.
- With strong waves breaking onto vast expanses of gorgeous white sand, Leca De Palmeira is a popular venue for experienced surfers of all types, especially towards its northern part where it merges with Aterro beach. The season is mainly from March to September although off season is possible.
- Not a million miles away from the town of Porto in North East Portugal lies the beach of Gaia Canidelo. It is a good spot for surfers of all types of intermediate to expert ability since there are some large and harardous rocks in the vicinity. The season is from March to September although off season is possible.
- Just 5 kms from the town of Ovar in Northern Portugal lies the small resort of Furadoro which has a great reputation for good surfing conditions as well as sailors making full use of the calmer waters of the nearby estuary. This spot is suited to surfers of all types with some experience, due to the presence of wave breakers and groynes. The season is from March to September although off season is possible.
- This is a fantastic big wave spot, for experienced surfers only, and it may well be the best beach break in the state.
- Hobson's Park is really only a beginners wave as it doesn't offer much that will interest those with experience. It's a great spot for anyone with a family too, as it has a good atmosphere and the waves are fun for kids.
- This is a good spot for everybody, with the cove at the bottom of the point being especially good for beginners. It is just to the west of Ventura, and is a convenient spot to visit if you find yourself in the area.
- This beach has long been known for its excellent surf, and regularly holds surf competitions. It is suitable for everybody, and is a popular beach with a good vibe.
