General Information
Level:0-10 Season:June 1 — September 30 -
Plenty of people see Hawaii as the surfing capital of the world, but that doesn’t mean other water sports aren’t well represented here too. A Bay is a good kite and windsurfing spot suitable for all ability levels, with a relaxed atmosphere and consistent conditions.
-
Beach
-
The beach is only small here, and is made up of a mixture of sand and pebbles. There are no hazards on it though, and no crowds getting in the way. Being Hawaii, it’s warm all year round and you’ll only need shorts whenever you come here as it averages a consistent 25-27c all year.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best winds on Big Island are during the summer months when the trade winds blow. June to September is the main time, though you might catch some wind either side of those months, and you’ll get a pretty regular 15-20 knots on most days. The water is almost always choppy but it won’t get any bigger than that, and the water is clean and clear.
-
Facilities
-
A Bay is well set up for watersports. Parking is within a couple of minutes walk of the beach and there are showers and public toilets here, as well as rooms available if you want it. There isn’t a campsite though, and there aren’t any gear shops.
-
Safety
-
Watch out for submerged rocks and swimmers in the water, and if you’re kiting be aware that the launching / landing space is limited as it’s a small beach. Small boats may also be out and about round here.
