General Information
Level:5-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Situated in the prefecture of Thessaloniki in North Eastern Greece lies the beach at Aghelochori. It is a great spot for kite surfers and wind surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not advisable for beginners to practice here because of the rocky harbor mole which lies to the right of the beach. This spot doesn't get too crowded, even during the busy summer period, however it gets very hot and 40 degrees plus are easily reached. The best times to surf here are between April and June and September to October.

Beach
-
The beach here is of medium to large size and is made up of soft sand and some grassy areas. There are a few obstacles on the beach such as a children's play area and the obligatory sun parasols that you will need to steer clear of. To get here you need to drive eastbound out of Thesalonika for about 30 kms towards Michaniona once here you will see the signs for Aghelochori and the beach, where there is plenty of parking.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind comes at you mainly from a south easterly direction and this is also the direction that works best here. During the summer months you can pick up some nice thermal breezes which have a tendency to be sideshore also. The water quality is clean and conditions are choppy pretty much all the time. However it is possible to pick up the occasional nice wave when the wind is strong enough and in the right direction. In the winter winds of 17-32 knots are not uncommon here. The water temperature remains between 12-26 degrees depending upon the time of year. The summers are hot but you will need a wet suit in the winter.
-
Facilities
-
There is plenty of parking here as well as the odd beach bar along the coastline. The town itself has a selection of shops and the best nightlife is to be found at nearby Michaniona.

Safety
-
Watch out for the harbor mole to the right of the beach and also keep an eye out for swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months.
