General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — October 31

This is quite a remote beach, about an hours drive away from Townsville.  It has some excellent and varied conditions that will offer something for everyone, regardless of ability and whether they are here to kitesurf, windsurf or surf.  The atmosphere is great and the surroundings are fantastic.

Beach

The beach is rugged and wild, consisting of deep sand and dunes with bushland behind it.  It’s big and there is no such thing as a crowd here.  As you’d expect, it is warm all year round and a wetsuit is rarely needed, with the sole exception being some winter days when a shorty might be suitable.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

Conditions are best with southeast winds, and they blow from April to October so it’s a good long season.  Speeds will usually be between 15 and 25 knots, and pick up in late morning and go on to evening.  The water offers a variety of conditions, from flat to large waves that are easily over 3m and everything in between.  The water is shallow and clean, and works on rising and falling tides.

Facilities

The facilities here are good for such a remote spot.  Lifeguards patrol the beach and there are public toilets.  Rooms are available in the town nearby, and there is lots of parking close to the beach.  If you want some nightlife, head to Townsville which is about a 1 hour drive.

Safety

The currents can be strong and there are some wavebreakers you should keep away from.  Watch out for swimmers too.
