General Information
Level:3-10 Season:December 1 — February 28 -
On the outskirts of Currimundi and facing the ocean, this is a good place for wave riders who are intermediate or experts. Surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers all frequent the place.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and it’s a good size, with plenty of room to launch and land kites and never getting crowded, although you might see quite a few people walking dogs or out with families during the holidays. It is public access and entry is via the car park. The temperatures are cooler here than many other spots, with the air averaging 28 C in summer and 20 C in winter, and the water averaging “” C and 18 C respectively.
-
Wind&Waves
-
It’s mainly a summer season spot, December to February, with a decent northeast wind blowing in at between 15 and 20 knots or thereabouts, and as it is a thermal wind it tends to build in strength through the day. The water is clean, and the surface has either small waves up to about 1m high or larger ones up to about 3m. The waves can have a bit of power and speed, and there is an occasional good beach break.
-
Facilities
-
As with many beaches in the state, lifeguards patrol during the summer. There are showers and public toilets, and a shop where gear can be purchased. There are also food outlets close by. Parking is right behind the beach.
-
Safety
-
There are some shallow, submerged rocks close to the launching area and the break, so take care to avoid them. This place can also collect a few jellyfish so try not to get stung.
