General Information

Level:0-10 Season:June 1 — October 1

This island is a 37 mile long barrier island, and is a State Park. The beach is good for all levels of experience and when you’ve done surfing you can sit and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

Beach

The beach here is pristine white, and you’ll even see feral ponies and deer crossing the beach. Head South from Ocean City and cross Sinepuxent Bay, then head to the south of the island. You’ll need to pay to park, but the beach is pretty close and you’ll be right on it after a minute or two walk.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The winds at this spot need to be from the northwest, west or southwest for it to work – any wind from the east will blow it out. The swell works best from the southeast or northwest, when it will start working at less than 1m and hold up to about 2.5m or so. Catch it when the tide is rising from low or mid tide for the best waves, which are about average in terms of power but can still be fun. They’ll give a pretty consistent ride length up to 150m, whether you are there on a good day or an average one. During the week the place is practically empty, and there won’t even be many surfers out at weekend although there can be a lot of tourists on the beach during summer.

Facilities

There is very little infrastructure here. The nearest you’ll get to accommodation is camping, and if you want more than that you’ll have to head back onto the mainland and towards Ocean Beach.

Safety

Watch out for rips and undertows off this spot.
