Azemmour Plage or El Haouzia as it is otherwise known translated means “the olives”. It is located on the north west coast of Morocco in totally natural surrounding, looking out on to the Atlantic Ocean. It is mainly frequented by locals but more surfers are finding it on their way to Safi and stopping for a few days. It is a good spot for all types of surfers of all abilities.

Beach

The beach is large and sandy and extends from Azemmour to El Jadida, a distance of 15 km. From September to June the beach is virtually empty and there is plenty of space. July and August are best avoided as these months get busy with holiday makers. You can get here from Casablanca Mohamed V airport where it is a 50 minute drive from the airport. From the town center, the beach is a 15 minute walk or 2 minutes by car.

Wind&Waves

The winds are frontal and blow mainly from the north west. They are good all year round although the onshore winds are the best. North west is the best direction at this spot. The best months are from January to June and September to December. The beach has a blue flag for its cleanliness and environment and is a good spot for riders who love waves. There are some excellent waves along the beach. There is plenty of room in the water for everyone. The water temperature is about 17 degrees in the winter to around 23 degrees in the summer.

Facilities

There is parking here and accommodation. There are also a few bars where you can grab a bite to eat. Should you get into difficulties there is a rescue boat on standby. The town of Azemmour is traditionally Moroccan and you will find lots of small specialist shops, cafes and bars. On Tuesdays there is a large open air souk or market. If you want to party the night away, then you will find some discotheques at El Jadida which is only 17 km away.

This beach is virtually unknown and very quiet so try not to come here alone. Just observe the usual safety precautions.
