Baabe / Rugen / Germany

Baabe is a lovely spa resort situated on the eastern coast of Rugen in the Baltic Ocean. It's very popular with surfers of all abilities being particularly well suited to beginners because of it's shallow water. The season is mainly spring to fall as the winters get very cold and it's not uncommon to see snow on the beach.

The beach is long, wide and sandy and very spacious except in the summer months when it does get packed with tourists, rendering it almost impossibe to find enough space to launch and land safely. On arriving in Rugen drive towards Thiessow and then follow the signs for Baabe, take a left hook and drive straight to the beach.

The frontal winds are westerly which work the best although sometimes, if you're lucky, you might catch some nice north east or east winds in the summer. The water is shallow for quite a way, nice and clean, and can be quite choppy with small waves of about 1 meter. The water temperature is around 22o C in summer and dropping to 15o C in fall and spring. Summers are nice and warm and the temperature can hit 30o C in the height of the summer, dropping to about 15o C during the remainder of the season.

Baabe is very poupular with tourists and there are plenty of toilets and places to eat. The nightlife here is fun during the summer and people are friendly.
