General Information
Level:7-10 Season:October 31 — March 31 -
This is an epic big wave spot, with perfect peaks and huge barrelling waves. You will often see photographers out here, taking snaps of the pro's as they hit some of the best waves Hawaii has to offer.
-
Beach
-
The beach here is a long thin strip of sand, with trees and private residences lining the back shore. Although not many people will be able to surf this spot successfully, the beach is often crowded with spectators.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The waves are best here in winter, and they start working at 1.5 to 2 m, and will hold up to an excellent 5 m or even more, fairly regularly. It is a reef break, only to the right, and as well as being huge the waves are hollow, fast, and powerful. The length is usually short, not really getting much more than 50 m on most days, but on a good day you might see it approaching hundred and 50 m. There are actually three different reef here, and the wave increases in size and power from the first week reef to the third. The first reef can probably be surfed by those with a bit of experience, while the third one is so big and heavy that you need to be professional or a kamikaze to go out there.
-
Facilities
-
There are few facilities on the beach itself, but nearby Sunset beach has surf shops and other facilities. Parking is right off the main highway, practically on the beach itself.
-
Safety
-
Be aware that there are submerged rocks here, and as they make up the reef where the break is you can easily get pounded into them.
