Situated on the south eastern tip of Italy in the province of Lecce lies the beach at Baia Verde. It is a very popular spot for wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. It does get busy with tourists during the months of June, July and August so there may well be surfing restrictions in place. Having said this, the best time of the year to surf here is between April and November.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach itself hugs round a long circular bay. There are rocks to the left and to the right but the center of the beach is clear. It is made up of soft white sand. To get here you will need to drive southbound from Torranto following the coast and the signs for Baia Verde. Here you will see the signs where you can park up.

The predominant wind directions here are northwest and southwest, both directions work very well. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are flat to choppy most of the time, but with small waves appearing, when then wind is at the right speed and in the right direction. The water temperature remains somewhere between 14-26 degrees depending upon the time of year, so you may want to suit up accordingly.

Parking

There is ample parking here. Baia Verde town itself has a good selection of bars, shops, accommodation and restaurants. The city of Lecce has some great nightlife, if you feel like getting into the party mood. It is only 45 minutes away.

Safety

Just be mindful of the rocks at either ends of the beach and also keep an eye on swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months.
