General Information

Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Bather Bodden Fuhlendorf is a lake spot that sits very near to the Baltic Sea on the north east coast of Germany. Like most spots along this stretch of coast it is very popular with windsurfers, kite surfers and surfers of all abilities along with sailors. It does get pretty busy in the summer, especially July and August, so the best times to go are spring and autumn

Beach

There is no beach as such here, just a grassy meadow with a small access down to the shoreline. There are also lots of reed beds along the water’s edge. To get here you need to drive 50 kms out of Rostock and head towards Straslund. Take the B105 and follow the signs for Fuhlendorf. Here you will see signs for the lake. You can park in the village and it is about 100 meters walk down to the lake.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The winds here are mainly frontal and tend to come at you from a westerly direction and the wind speed hovers at around 10 knots most of the year with lighter winds during the summer months. There can be some nice north easterly and easterly winds in the summer but not too frequently, although these are the best directions for surfing in this area. The water is pretty shallow with a sandbank out to around 200 meters, but can be flat to choppy depending on wind direction and speed. The water temperature in the summer is nice and warm at around 22 degrees as it heats up pretty quickly, but can drop to around 5 degrees in the winter.

Facilities

There is nothing at the lakeside, but you can walk into Fuhlendorf in less than 5 minutes. Here you will find a handful of shops, and food places. For real nightlife, you need to head into Rostock which is around 1 hour’s drive.

Safety

There are no real safety issues here to worry about except to watch out for the crowds, especially in July and August.
