General Information
Level:2-10 Season:April 1 — September 30 -
This is a nice location in Barnegat Bay on Lon Beach Island. It is mainly used by windsurfers, although intermediate or better kitesurfers are often seen out here as well.
-
Beach
-
This on the opposite side of the island to the ocean, and as a result is more sheltered from the weather that can affect the other beaches. It’s actually a lagoon spot, and the beach is sandy but only very small. Because of this, riders must be competent and able to handle themselves well as there is no room for error. Air temperatures range from 21-25c in the middle of summer to 10-15c in the fall and spring and 0-3c in winter.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best wind directions here are from a number of directions – north, southwest, west, or northwest, and they’re thermal winds at between 19-15 knots all year round. The southerly winds blow in May - July and give the strongest, most consistent winds while winter and spring see it come from the west, when it can be gusty and make the surface choppy. The water is shallow and it’s clean, and is best at low tide.

Facilities
-
As you’d probably expect from a place like this, everything you want is either on site or close by. The lagoon has showers and toilets, as well as food stalls and plenty of parking. There is also a gear shop, where you can buy, rent or get kit repaired.
-
Safety
-
There are potential hazards everywhere you look, from bystanders wandering about all over the beach to the nearby road, fences and power lines.
