General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Also known as Bingil Bay, this is just near Mission Bay and has some fantastic surfing for everybody, even beginners. It has a good atmosphere and is easy to reach.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and a good size, with hardly anybody out during the week and only a few people, mostly surfers, at weekends. The temperatures are comfortable all year round, ranging from about 24 C to 32 C, so a pair of shorts and sun protection is really all you need.
-
Wind&Waves
-
This break works when the wind is blowing from the northwest, west or southwest but only when it is over 25 knots. The swell can come from almost any direction, it isn’t fussy, and it works on a falling tide. When it breaks, the waves start at less than 1m and hold up to over 3m but only during very good conditions – it’s usually much less than that. It’s a beach break, both right and left, and the waves are hollow, fast and powerful – perfect for a good day out. Length is good too, with 200 – 300 m being the norm and over 500m possible.
-
Facilities
-
You won’t find any home comforts here, but the town of Wongaling is just 5 minutes away and has a surf shop in the shopping centre if you need anything. Parking is close to the beach, just a couple of minutes walk really, and the whole area is accessible to the public.
-
Safety
-
Take care to avoid the urchins, they cover the seabed here and they hurt. The currents can also be strong.
