General Information
Level:7-10 Season:May 1 — September 30 -
This is a quiet, secluded spot which is unusual given that there is such a built-up area around it. It needs a lot of experience to handle, but if you have that it can be one of the best breaks in San Diego County.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and runs through about half a mile from the last condo to just north of the Tijuana rivermouth. It's a pretty quiet place and you'll never see more than a few surfers out here even during weekends and holidays.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Conditions are best here when the swell is coming from the north-west, west, south-west or south. The waves start working at less than 1 m and will hold up to an impressive 4 m or more, and do so at all tide positions and on both rising and falling tides. It is a beach break, both right and left, and the waves are hollow, fast and powerful, not to mention heavy. Length is usually short at less than 50 m, unless you catch it on a good day when it can be between 100m and 150 m.
-
Facilities
-
There is no infrastructure here, it's just the sand, the water and you. To get here, just head south as far as you can on seacoast drive and park when the road runs out. The town of Imperial Beach isn't too far away, and neither is Mexico you prefer that.
-
Safety
-
There are some fairly strong currents here that you will need to watch out for, and don't cross the locals as they know how to surf and will happily drop in on you. The water also isn't the cleanest around, so keep your mouth shut when you fall in.
