General Information

Level:0-10 Season:March 1 — October 31

Looking out onto the North Sea, this site probably isn’t as unpredictable as you might expect. Windsurfers and kiters of all experience levels can come here, and it provides a variety of conditions that should let everyone find something they like.

Beach

The beach consists of a long stretch of soft sand, backed by grassy dunes.  There is plenty of room to set up gear and loads of choice when it comes to launching points, especially as it never gets busy or crowded.  As the climate goes, a drysuit is required in winter, a thick wetsuit in spring and autumn and a thin or shorty wetsuit in summer.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The frontal winds blow best from March to May and September to October, though the summer months still produce a useful sea breeze.  The best winds come from the north, northeast, southwest and west, and speeds range between 10 and 20 knots.  The water conditions here depend on the tide and the wind – you’ll get shallow flat or choppy water at low tide, and at high tide with a strong wave you’ll get some decent waves approaching 3m high.

Facilities

There isn’t much development by the beach, and the most you’ll find is a parking spot right by the seafront.  Ostende is only a short drive away though, and it is a good size city with all the facilities you need.

Safety

There are restricted zones, and you can really only use the surf club area.  It is a very safe area though, with few hazards as long as you know your abilities.
