General Information

Level:10-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Brombachsee is split into two lakes aptly called “big” and “small”. Water sport enthusiasts generally head for the Grosse (big) Brombachsee which is just under 13 kms in length. It is mainly used by wind and kite surfers and indeed sailors of intermediate and professional abilities. Brombachsee can get fairly busy during the height of the summer, so the best times to go are spring and autumn, although there is no particular season here. However, if you like your surfing a little less packed it might be better during the week.

Beach

Brombachsee offers a gentle sloping grassy shoreline which merges into sand just before the water's edge. So there is plenty of space for “kitting up” To get here you need to follow the A6 out of Nuremburg towards Fraenkische Seenplatte and then head for Ramsberg where you will see the signs for the lake.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The predominant wind direction here is a west southwesterly which is consistent at around 6 knots. The best direction for surfing here is either an easterly or westerly wind however the winds can get fairly gusty and can hit you from side shore. The water here is flat to choppy depending on wind speed and the wake of the ferry crossing the lake, and it is possible to pick up quite a bit of speed here when the conditions are favorable. The water temperature hovers around 18 degrees in the summer months and gets down to around 3-5 degrees in the winter so it is important to suit up accordingly.

Facilities

There is quite a lot here. Brombachsee offers a sailing and surf school with equipment hire. There is a shop where you can buy supplies and souvenirs and there are also eating places and onsite shower facilities.

Safety

Stay out of the way of the ferry which crosses the lake frequently.
