General Information

Situated on the southern coast of Spain between the tourist town of Fuengirola and the more affluent area of Marbella lies the beach at Cabopino east. This is a great spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not recommended for beginners because of the harbor mole that is situated to the right of the beach. There is no kiting allowed in the summer months between June and September. So the best months for surfing are October through to May.

Cabopino east has a medium sized sandy beach which gets crowded with tourists between June and September. Come out of season and you can pick your spot. To find the beach you will need to head eastbound out of Marbella on the N340 coast road towards Artola. In Artola you will see signs for Cabopino and the harbor. The spot lies to the east of the harbor.

The main wind directions here are east and east southeast. Both directions work really well here and winds can be pretty strong. The water quality is clean and there is a large sandbank just outside of the port which can create some pretty large waves of up to 5 meters in height. However 1-3 meter waves are more the norm. The water temperature remains between 18 -26 degrees depending upon the time of year.

Parking

There is plenty of parking and there are also various beachside restaurants where you can catch something to eat and drink. For accommodation and nightlife, this stretch of coast really is the tourist strip, so you will have no problems finding either or.

Safety

Keep a close eye out for the harbor mole. Also be aware that the waves here can get pretty big. Watch out for swimmers and bathers in the water during the summer months.
