Situated on the central western coast of Italy around 18 kms north of the capital Rome, lies the spot at Campo Di Mare. It is a very popular spot for wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. It does get very busy with tourists during the busy summer months and as a result, the local authorities have banned kite surfing between the dates of 1st May and 30th September. This is due to the fact that a couple of years ago, two kiters were Killed in a freak accident involving a very strong gust of wind. The best times to surf here are from October through to April when the beach is much quieter.

Campo Di Mare has a gorgeous soft white sandy beach that is large in size. If it does get a little busy then head slightly north along the beach and across a small river. Here you will find less people. To get here you need to head northbound out of Rome, following the signs for Campo Di Mare. Here you will see the signs for the beach where there is ample parking.

The main wind direction is south westerly and this direction also works really well here. The water quality is clear and conditions are generally choppy with small waves. The water temperature falls somewhere between 10-24 degrees depending upon the time of year, so you may need to suit up in the winter months.

Parking

There is plenty of parking here and the short walk into the town of Campo Di Mare will see a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants and accommodation. If you want to party the night away, then take the short drive back into Rome.

Safety

The freak accident shouldn't put people off from surfing here. This is a safe spot. It does however get busy with other kiters and boarders so be mindful of other people in your immediate vicinity.
