General Information
Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — September 1 -
Situated on the southern tip of Italy in the region of Reggio Calabria lies the beach at Cannitello. It is a popular spot with wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. The beach does get crowded with tourists particularly during June, July and August and as a result there may well be surfing restrictions/Zones in place. Having said that, the best times to surf here are from April through to September when the thermal winds kick in.

Beach
-
The beach here is of medium size and is made up of a mixture of sand and tiny pebbles. There are more stones down by the shoreline than further up the beach. The beach itself is hazard and obstacle free, so out of season you may well be able to pick your spot. To get here follow the signs southbound from Reggio until you see the beach. Here there is ample parking.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main wind direction is south westerly and this direction works really well here. The water quality is clear and conditions are choppy with small waves of around 1 meter (if the wind direction is right and it is strong enough). The water temperature falls somewhere between 10-24 degrees depending upon the time of year. In the spring, summer and autumn you can get away with shorts or a shorty, but it is most definitely advisable to wear a full suit during the winter.

Facilities
-
There is plenty of parking close by. Take the short drive into Cannitello town and you will find that it has a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants and accommodation.
-
Safety
-
This is a fairly safe spot, however be mindful of the swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months.
