General Information

Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — September 30

This is a great little surf spot, used by all experience levels and very popular as a result. It’s friendly too, despite the large numbers of tourists and novices that gather here the regulars are good humoured and there’s rarely any hassle.

Beach

This is right by the western end of Poverty Beach, so don’t get the wrong spot by mistake. The beach here is only small, but it’s gorgeous when the sun is out and it is kept pristine as it is an official wildlife sanctuary. You’ll need a tag to get on here.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

This place is a little bit odd, as the best wind and wave directions seem to vary over the course of the year. Generally speaking though, the spot is at its best when the wind is out of the northeast and the swell is coming from the southeast. The waves start at less than 1m, and will hold up to just over 2m, but it doesn’t matter when you turn up here – it is the same whether the tide is rising or falling and the tide positions don’t make any difference. It’s a point break, only breaking to the left, and the waves might only be small but they are still fun to ride. Length is good, a normal day will give over 100m and a good day will easily see 200m and more. In summer, it’s a crowded spot at the best of times and at weekends you’ll barely be able to move.

Facilities

Parking is very difficult here on busy days, you won’t get anywhere close to the beach. There are no facilities on the beach, but there are a couple of surf shops within about 10-15 minute walk and Cape May has a good range of other facilities.

Safety

There are submerged rocks here and the jetty should probably be avoided too.
