General Information

Level:5-10 Season:April 1 — October 1

Something of a secret spot until recently, this is a good place for experienced surfers to find big waves.  It isn’t the easiest place to find but it breaks consistently and is worth the effort when it goes off.

Beach

The beach is sandy and clean, and isn’t a bad size although that doesn’t really matter as it is a quiet spot and you’ll never see more than a couple of other people out here.  The climate here is mild in summer, averaging about 17c, and cold in winter when you’ll have a low of about 2c.  A decent wetsuit is therefore required in winter though a thin one will do in summer.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The wind is good when it comes from the north, southeast or east and the swell is good when coming out of the northwest, west or southwest.  Get here on a rising tide and you’ll find that the swell starts at 1m – 1.5 and easily builds up to 5m or more.  It is a reef break, right and left, and the waves are powerful and hollow.  It is long, even a normal day will give you up to 150m and a good day will give an excellent 300m.

Facilities

It is a remote spot and there are no facilities laid on for surfers here.  You can park on the end of road 7722, and then take a hike through the trees to get to the beach.

Safety

The waves are big and powerful and you need to know what you are doing before you attempt to go out here.  Respect the area as most of the surrounding land is a reservation.
