Situated on the southern tip of Italy, just a stone's throw from the island of Sicily in the region of Calabria lies the beach at Capo Spartivento. It is a popular spot with wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. The beach does get pretty busy during the months of June, July and August so there may be restrictions in place during this time. It may pay you to check it out before you set off. Having said this, the best times to surf here are between the months of April and September.

Pebble/Shingle Gradual descent

The beach at Capo Spartivento is mainly made up of small micro pebbles and is medium to large in size. To get here you will need to follow the coast road south bound out of Reggio De Calabria until you see the signs for Capo Spartivento and the beach. Here you will find ample parking.

The main wind direction here is south easterly and this direction works really well. The water quality is clean and conditions are choppy most of the time with small waves appearing when the wind is in the right direction. The water temperature falls somewhere between 14-26 degrees depending upon the time of year so you might want to suit up accordingly.

Facilities

There is ample parking as well as shower and toilet facilities at the site. You will also find a few eateries here. The nearest towns of Galati or Melito have a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants and accommodation.

Safety

This is a fairly safe spot here. Be mindful of swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months.
