General Information
Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — September 1 -
Situated in the south western region of Calabria, lies the beach at Capo Suvero. It is a good spot for kite surfers and wind surfers of all levels and abilities. During the summer months, particularly, June, July and August the beach does get busy with tourists so there may well be surfing restrictions in place, therefore it may pay to check this out before you set off. Having said this, the best times to surf are between the months of May through till September when the thermal winds kick in.
-
Beach
-
The beach curves gently round the bay and is of medium size. It is made up mainly of compacted sand with a few stones and pebbles near the shoreline. The beach is hazard and obstacle free. To get here you need to take the A3 leading onto the A18 southbound out of Naples following the signs for Capo Suvero. Here you will find ample parking.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main wind directions are north, northwest and north northwest and all these directions work really well here. Between the months of May and September the Borea wind kicks in and can deliver wind speed of somewhere between 18-25 knots. The curvature of the beach makes several of the directions sideshore. The water quality is clean and conditions are choppy most of the time, with small waves appearing when the wind is in the right direction and is strong enough. The water temperature falls somewhere between 10-26 degrees depending upon the time of year so you will need to suit up accordingly.
-
Facilities
-
There is parking directly at the beach. The nearest towns of Lamenzia and Maiolino have a good selection of restaurants, shops, bars and accommodation.
-
Safety
-
This is a pretty safe spot. Just be mindful of swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months.
