General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Situated about 15 minutes east from the town of Motril on Spain's southern coast, lies the beach at Carchuna. It is a popular spot for wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. This beach can get fairly crowded with tourists and beach goers during the summer months so there may well be surfing restrictions in place. You might need to check this out before you set off. The best time to surf here is between October and April when there are less tourists around.

Beach
-
Carchuna has a big sandy beach that is long and narrow. To get here you need to drive eastbound from Motril on the E15/A7 motorway until you see the signs for Calahonda. Here you will see an old castle. It is possible to drive right onto the beach here and park.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main wind directions are easterly and east southeasterly. Both directions work well here and in the winter the easterly winds can be fairly strong. Summer winds are much lighter. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are choppy most of the time, with some smaller waves appearing when the wind is in the right direction. The water temperature falls somewhere between 18-26 degrees depending upon the time of year.
-
Facilities
-
You can park right at the beach. For shops bars, restaurants and accommodation then your nearest town is Calahonda.
-
Safety
-
There isn't really too much to worry about here, just keep a look out for swimmers and bathers in the water during the busy summer months.
