General Information
Level:7-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
About a mile to the south of Carmel Beach, the conditions here couldn’t be more different. This is a truly heavy spot, for pro’s only and it is mainly used by bodyboarders or those who can afford to buy a new board after every session.
-
Beach
-
The beach is quite big, consisting of soft white sand that fronts an area of marshland. Few people make the effort to come out here so the chances are you’ll be on your own or just one of a handful of people out. Water temperatures are cool so you’ll need a wetsuit – averages for the water are about 13C in winter and 16C in summer, with the air just a few degrees warmer.
-
Wind&Waves
-
This breaks fairly regularly, and needs the swell to be coming from the northwest or west to do so. Best at the mid tide level and on a falling tide, the swell will start working at about 1m and reaches a maximum of about 3m. It breaks over a sandbar, both right and left, and the waves are fast, powerful and hollow. Length is always short, you shouldn’t expect more than about 50m out of it.
-
Facilities
-
There aren’t any facilities on this beach and no lifeguard service. If you drive here you can park close by, or alternatively there is a public transport stop here during the summer months. The main part of Carmel is just a short drive away if you want to find restaurants, restrooms, shops etc.
-
Safety
-
There are plenty of submerged rocks, and due to the large Pacific swells you also get some strong currents around here.
