General Information
Level:5-10 Season:May 1 — September 30 -
A relatively remote location, this is away from the crowds but gives some excellent waves when it comes together. It is, however, only suitable for experienced surfers.
-
Beach
-
It’s a great setting here, with a long stretch of sandy beach looking out onto the ocean and almost nothing around you. It’s warm enough in the summer at about 24c to manage without a suit, but it isn’t so hot it’s uncomfortable. Fall will need a full suit as temperatures drop to around 12c.

Wind&Waves
-
Good wind directions here are when it comes from the north or northeast, while the swell only works when it coming from the south. It starts working at a pretty average 1m or so, but it will easily hold a fantastic 5m on a good day. It works at both mid low tide positions, and can be ridden on both rising and falling tides. The waves themselves are hollow and fun, and although they have less power than you’d expect from the size you will still take a pounding if you aren’t careful. Length isn’t bad, with a normal day giving anything up to 150m and a good day getting out towards 300m. There are never many other surfers out, even on the warmest days with the biggest waves.
-
Facilities
-
You can park pretty close to the spot, but there really isn’t much else out here. Gilgo and Oak Beach are the nearest communities but they are very small too, and for anything significant you’ll have to head back to Freeport on the mainland.
-
Safety
-
You need to be able to handle large waves to surf here, and if you can’t do it then don’t complain when the locals push you out.
