General Information

Level:0-10 Season:March 1 — September 1

Comporta is not as well visited as other more popular destinations in Portugal, which is quite surprising as this area boasts miles and miles of unspoilt beaches. Having said this, it is quite a popular spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. The main surfing season here is from March through to September. However, there might well be surfing restrictions in place during June, July and August so it may pay to check this out before you set off.

Wind&Waves

Wave spot Regular wind

The wind comes at you from two main directions and they are westerly and southerly or variations thereof. The wind can become a little gusty in the winter months and 20 knots is not uncommon this time of year. However the winds are much lighter averaging somewhere between 5-12 knots during the summer. The water quality is clean and conditions are choppy with small waves most of the time (so great for beginners) The water temperature hovers between 12-20 degrees depending upon the time of year, so you might want to suit up accordingly.

Parking

There is plenty of parking available, but not much else. Comporta has a small selection of shops, bars, restaurants and accommodation. For some descent nightlife, take the short drive back to Setubal.

Safety

This is a fairly safe spot here with no real issues. Just be mindful of swimmers and bathers in the water during the summer months.
