Situated about 40 minutes south east of Cadiz on Spain's south west coast lies the beach at Conil. It is a very popular spot with surfers, kite surfers and wind surfers of all levels and abilities. The beach does get crowded with tourists looking for a bit of sunshine during the summer months so there may well be restrictions in place. It is advisable to check this out before you set off.

Conil boasts a gloriously large white sandy beach with plenty of room. To get here you need to drive southbound out of Cadiz on the N340 towards Conil De La Frontera where you will see signs for the beach.

There are several different wind directions that apply here these are, north easterly, east northeasterly, easterly, westerly, west northwesterly and westerly. The best directions for surfing here are westerly, west northwesterly and north westerly. The wind type is thermal during the summer and sideshore and frontal during the winter. The water quality is clean and conditions range from flat to choppy with small to medium waves, when the wind is in the right direction. Water temperature hovers between 18-26 degrees depending upon the time of year so in the spring and summer you can get away with shorts and a shorty, the rest of the year you may need a full length wetsuit.

Facilities

Parking

There is plenty of parking at the spot and there are a few eating places dotted close to the beach. Conil itself is a fairly large town with good facilities. If you really want to let your hair down, then head back towards Cadiz.

Safety

There are hardly an safety issues to worry about here as it is a safe spot. Just keep a look out for swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the summer months.
