General Information

Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

This is just a good, relatively quiet spot on the west end of Long Island. It has a relaxed feel to it and the atmosphere is friendly, and anyone can surf here regardless of experience.

Beach

It’s a nice curve on this sandy beach, sitting between two rock jetties. Summer temperatures are a pleasant 25c or so, fall drops to the low teens and if you’re here in winter you’ll need a thick suit complete with hood, gloves and boots as it won’t be much above freezing. You’ll need to buy a pass to get on the beach in the summer months, too.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

: This place is actually surfable all year round. The wind is best when coming from the north, northwest, southeast or northeast, and the swell is best from the southwest, south, or southeast. The swell starts working at less than 1m, but will hold up to over 3m. You need to get it on mid or high tide to get the most out of it, but it doesn’t matter if the tide is rising or falling. It’s a jetty break, only to the left, and the waves are fast and powerful and can also be hollow at times. Length is usually around 100m, though a good day can see it get well over 200m. You’re unlikely to see anyone else here surfing during the week, and probably only a handful at weekend.

Facilities

Parking can be difficult in summer, when the tourists hit the island, and you may find yourself walking in to the beach from 10-15 minutes away. There are showers on the beach for public use and plenty of shops and other facilities only a short walk away.

Safety

There are submerged rocks to keep your eyes open for, and the fall season can see the currents get a bit stronger than usual.
