Turkey, with a long coastline and numerous rivers, is fast emerging as a preferred destination for watersports tourism. There are a number of watersports activities available in Turkey ranging from jet skiing, scuba diving and rafting to windsurfing, boat hire and yachting. The river Coruh, one of the fastest flowing rivers of the world and the venue of the fourth watersports championship in 1993, is especially famous for watersports activities.

Terrain

Turkey is a transcontinental country spanning across Asia and Europe. The European section, Eastern Thrace, constitutes only 3% of Turkey’s area. The Asian section, called Anatolia or Asia Minor, lies like a bridge between Europe and Asia. It consists of a high central plateau with Coroglu and Pontic mountain ranges to the north and the Taurus Mountains to the south. There are long narrow plains along the coast. Eastern Turkey, which is more mountainous, is home to the sources of many rivers like Euphrates, Tigris and Aras, and includes Lake Van and Mount Ararat, the highest point of Turkey.

Climate
-
The coastal areas of Turkey have temperate to hot climate, with hot, dry summers and mild to cold winters. Rainfall normally occurs in winters. The area bordering the Black Sea is the only one that receives rainfall throughout the year. The interior is arid with extreme climate. While summers in eastern Anatolia are generally above 30 degrees Celsius, winter temperatures can reach -30 to -40 degrees Celsius.

Safety
-
Many beaches in Turkey do not have lifeguards or coast guards while dangerous riptides and undertow conditions occur frequently.
Additionally, Turkey often has very high UV index ratings. Avoid going out in the sun during midday and wear sunscreen at all times.
