General Information
Level:5-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
This spot is a bit of a pain to get to, but is well worth it. Suitable for experienced surfers, it faces south so it catches some excellent swells and is a very consistent break.
-
Beach
-
The beach is at the bottom of some fairly big cliffs, consists of packed sand and is crescent shaped. Due to the difficulty of getting here it is never crowded, and unless you come with a friend you are unlikely to see anybody else. It's a little bit cooler here than most of the Napier spots, with an average of about 18° C in summer and 13° C in winter.
-
Wind&Waves
-
This spot works best when the wind is coming from the north-west, west or south-west and the swell is coming from the south, south-east or possibly east. It will start working at less than 1 m and hold up to over 2.5 m, and is good at all tide positions and on both rising and falling tides. The best break is to the left, over a reef, and the wave is fast, powerful and hollow. If you don't fancy that, then there are also a couple of righthanders here too. Length is about average for the stretch of coast, and ranges between 50 m and 150 m depending on the swells.
-
Facilities
-
There are no facilities here at all, make sure you bring food and water. In fact, to get here you need to be prepared for a 30 min walk after parking up at Wiamarama Beach. Hastings is the nearest city, and is a popular tourist destination for weekend breaks out of Auckland and Wellington.

Safety
-
This coast has a lot of rocks in the water around the shore, and this spot is no exception so take care.
