Creixell / Catalonia / Spain

Situated a stones throw away from the beautiful city of Tarragona on Spain's north eastern coast lies the beach at Creixell. It is a very popular spot with surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. There are many tourists and beach goers here in the summer and because of this, there are time and zone restrictions in place, therefore you may want to check it out before you set off. There are some nice thermal winds produced here in the summer, but if you want to avoid the crowds and restrictions, then try October through till April

The spot here has one of the best beaches in the area. Long and wide, with soft white sand, it is ideal for tourists and surfers alike. If you surf out of season then you may well be able to pick your place. To find the beach you will need to take the short drive east out of Tarragona, following the signs for Creixell and to the beach where there is ample parking

There are two main wind directions here and they are easterly and south westerly. The best direction for surfing here is when it blows at you from a south westerly direction This is when you can pick up some good sized waves of up to 3 meters in height The water quality is clean and is normally choppy with small waves most of the time, however, watch out for that south westerly wind! The water temperature falls somewhere between 13-18 degrees depending upon the time of year, so you might want to suit up accordingly.

There is a campsite just down the beach which is very popular with surfers. It also has accommodation and food places as well as shower and toilet facilities. The town itself has a few bars, shops and restaurants. If you feel in a party mood, then why not take the short drive back into Tarragona.

There is not too much to worry about here, except to keep a look out for swimmers and bathers in the water during the busy summer period.
