General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — October 31

Found right on the edge of Cape Cleveland, this is about 40km away from Townsville.  A large river meets the ocean and as a result there is a natural build up of sand that results in several sandbanks, creating interesting conditions for windsurfers and kitesurfers of all abilities.

Beach

The beach consists of a big open area of soft sand, with plenty of room to launch and land easily.  As it is out of the way it is never busy and you won’t have any problems with crowds.  As you probably expect, the air and water temperatures are warm all year round and even in winter only a shorty will be needed.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

April to October is the main season here, and you’ll get both thermal and trade winds blowing throughout the day from the east or southeast at speeds averaging 15 -20 knots.  The water is shallow and clean, and because of the numerous sandbars you get quite a few large areas where the surface is completely flat.

Facilities

This is a remote spot and there is no development at all here, nor anywhere nearby, so you will have to make sure you bring everything you need with you.  There is at least plenty of parking, but you won’t be able to park right next to the beach and will need to take a short walk. It is within reach of Townsville which can be used as a convenient base.

Safety

The beach is clear of hazards, and once you are on the water there is little of concern except possibly the currents which can be strong as the water funnels between the sandbanks.
