General Information
Level:1-10 Season:November 1 — March 31 -
This spot is right at the base of the Diamond Head volcano cone, which frankly is just an awesome sight especially when viewed from the water. It isn't really a beginners spot but surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers can all be seen out here regularly.
-
Beach
-
The beach here is sandy and medium-size so this should be plenty of room for everyone although kiters will need to take care to avoid the rocks. As it is Hawaii, you can travel light here and will only need a pair of board shorts as the water temperature never drops below 25C.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best time for the wind here is between November and March, and the best wind direction is from the South or the south-west. Wind speed isn't particularly high, averaging between 10 and 15 knots, but it is consistent. The water here is shallow, and will usually give medium sized waves between 1m and 3m in height, although a few times a year it will exceed 3m and give some excellent waves that break right over the coral reef.
-
Facilities
-
Parking is possible in a pull off just by the main road here, and it is only a couple of minutes walk from the shore. There aren't any other facilities, but as it's so close to the main part of the city that hardly seems to matter.
-
Safety
-
The only real hazards here are the rocks that lurk just under the surface of the shore. As long as you avoid those you will have a great day here.
