General Information
Level:0-10 Season:September 1 — April 30 -
On the northern coast of Cape Gloucester, this sheltered bay provides consistent conditions that appeal to windsurfers and kitesurfers of all abilities.
-
Beach
-
The beach is made up of soft golden sand, and it is clean with no obstacles. There is plenty of room, and it forms a gentle crescent shape with a thinner strip of beach and scrubland at both ends. Because of its remoteness it is never crowded and you’ll have plenty of room to launch and land kites. Like much of this area, temperatures are tropical and you’ll only need shorts all year round as water temperatures are in the mid twenties.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best winds come from the north or northeast, and blow quite consistently through most of the year, with winter being the only really unreliable time. The speed will range between 10 and 20 knots, and on a good day experienced people will be able to ride all the across the water to the small island, behind which is some excellent flat water. Depending on the wind strength, the general area will have water that is either flat or choppy, and it is always shallow and clean.
-
Facilities
-
You can park almost on the beach, just head right to the end of the road and pull over. It is too remote to have any facilities though, so you will need to bring all your kit and supplies with you as there no chance of getting anything without a long drive back to the Proserpine area.
-
Safety
-
There is a lot of coral round here and it can be sharp, and you’ll also need to be watching out for fishing nets.
