General Information
Level:3-10 Season:May 1 — September 30 -
There are some places that make you feel you’re the only person on the water for miles around, and some where you really are the only person for miles around. This is one of the latter, and it’s a good spot for windsurfing or kiting, though it isn’t suitable for beginners.
-
Beach
-
The beach is small stones and rocks down to the shore, and in most cases you’ll be a launching a kite from the road. The water is always cold here, and you’ll need a thick drysuit all the time as even the air doesn’t warm up much.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The spot is useable from May to September, and though you get some wind all year round it tends to be stormy and far too cold outside these months. The best directions are from the southeast or northwest, and happily those are also the main directions. The wind is usually around 15 knots in summer, and doesn’t really get gusty unless you’re at the start or end of the season and storms are building. The water is clear, and although it’s choppy most of the time it never gets big enough to form any actual waves.
-
Facilities
-
There is plenty of parking here and the main road runs by, so access is easy. You can also get in by boat if you prefer. There are a few places to stay and there’s a campsite if you are hardy or on a tight budget.
-
Safety
-
Try not to get run over as you launch your kite on the road, and mind the submerged rocks, especially as they’re covered with sharp barnacles.
