General Information

Level:3-10 Season:June 1 — August 31

Typical of Austrian kiting and windsurfing spots, this is set in a high mountain lake.  Only intermediate and better riders should be out here, but that’s more to do with the difficulties of launching a kite than it is to do with the water conditions.

Beach

The beach is a mixture of grass and pebbles, and it’s only small although you should just about have enough room to launch a kite from the grass before you reach the gravel.  You don’t tend to get any crowds here, so at least you don’t need to watch out for swimmers and sunbathers.  Temperatures are fairly cool, with the water getting to only about 16 C and the air to 25 – 30C in summer.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

For this spot to work you need the weather to be bright and clear, and the best months are from June to August.  The thermal winds pick up then, and will blow from the northeast or north at about 10 – 15 knots, with the most consistent time being from mid-day to mid-afternoon.  The water is flat, the wind strength makes no difference to it, and it’s as clear and unpolluted as you can get.

Facilities

Drive to Rindbach on the B145, then park at the south end of the lake and buy a ticket.  There is a school based here if you want some lessons, and there are public toilets and somewhere to buy food too.

Safety

Take care when launching as you will be close to a fence and trees.  Once on the water, if you go near the rivermouth the current can be strong.
