General Information

Situated on the western tip of the Spanish coast, about a 30 minute drive from Alicante lies the coastal resort of El Campello. It is a very popular spot with kite surfers of all levels and abilities. There is no particular season as such but be aware that in the summer it gets packed with tourists so there may well be time and zone restrictions in place, It may be advisable to check before you set off. The best times for surfing are between October and April as you will avoid the crowds.

Beach

El Campello has a medium to large white sandy beach that does get packed during the summer. Go out of season if you want to be able to pick your spot. To get here you simply travel northeast from Alicante on the A7 and follow the signs for El Campello, when you get here there are plenty of signs to the beach.

From April to October the wind direction is predominantly easterly, but from November to March it changes direction and heads west northwest. The wind speed is a pretty consistent 8-9 knots but it can get a little gusty especially during the winter months. The water quality is clean and is generally choppy, however when the wind is right it is possible to catch some small waves of up to 1 meter in height. The water temperature hovers somewhere between 16-26 degrees so it is possible to wear a normal wetsuit during the winter and a shorty or shorts the rest of the year.

Facilities

Parking

There are beachside Chiringuitos dotted along this stretch of coast, so if you feel like a drink and a tapas then no problem. There is also ample parking close by. For everything else then you need to take the short walk into the town itself. If you want to party, then head out to Alicante.

Safety

Not too much to worry about here other than a mole situated at the south end of the beach. Keep an eye on swimmers and bathers during the height of the summer.
