The lagoon at El Naaba is the perfect spot for wind surfers and kite surfers to practice. It is used mainly as a beginners station because of the gentle shallow waters and dead calm conditions. Situated only 30 minutes from the up and coming Red Sea resort of Marsa Alam its location makes this the perfect spot. The best times of the year to surf are from May through to September when the thermal winds kick in, however it is possible to surf all year round here. If you stay at the Hotel Equinox at El Naaba, there are daily shuttle bus services that run to and from the lagoon.

Beach

There is a large sandy beach with no hazards or obstacles and there is also lots of space around the lagoon. It may get crowded with other surfers during the busy summer season so you may need to pick your times carefully.

The predominant wind direction here is northerly or variations thereof, all of these directions work really well here. The summer gives more consistent wind that in the winter but there is still an annual 60 percent chance of wind, which is pretty good. Depending upon conditions the wind generally starts at around 4 bft. The water is crystal clear and conditions are flat all of the time. The water temperature remains a very mild 18-20 degrees even during the winter, so you could get away with a summer 2-3mm suit during the winter months. The rest of the year you will need sun screen.

Facilities

Parking

There is parking here but that's about it. The main beach is only 1km away and this has good facilities. For some good nightlife take a drive back to the resort of Marsa Alam.

Safety

This spot is perfect for beginners and as a result is very safe. Just be aware of other kiters and surfers in your close proximity.
