General Information

Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers all vie for space on this gorgeous little beach on the northwest of the island.  Beginner surfers will be fine here, but kite surfers need a bit of experience to handle the small beach and the crowds that go with it.

Beach

The beach is nice sand but small, and as it gets a lot of visitors it often feels crowded.  It is an all year round spot, like much of Hawaii, and with water and air temperatures in the mid to high twenties you won’t need to pack anything more than shorts.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The wind works from a few different directions here, namely north, southwest, west or northwest.  It is usable all year round and the speed is fairly consistent, ranging between 15 and 25 knots but hardly ever dropping below that.  The water varies according to the wind strength and direction, it can be choppy, have small waves up to 1m high, or have larger waves that can reach up to 3m.  For surfers, there’s nothing special about the waves but it makes for an interesting session, with just enough speed and power to keep things fun.

Facilities

Parking is easy and thee is a fair bit of room, but it still gets busy on good days.  There are showers and public toilets here too, so by Hawaiian standards it is a bit over-developed.

Safety

Watch out for bystanders on the beach and swimmers in the water.  Unusually for Hawaii, it is considered something of a spot for locals and they’ll protect it if you seem to be acting like you own the place.
