General Information

Level:6-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Situated only a stones throw away from the busy tourist resort of Denia on Spain's east coast lies the beach at Espigon Norte. It is a very popular spot with wind surfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not advisable for beginners to try their luck here because of the wave breakers and groynes dotted all along the shoreline. There is also a pretty large rocky mole to watch out for. This place as you would expect, gets packed during the summer with beach goers and bathers. There may well be restrictions imposed here during this time. It may be wise to check before you go. Although there is no particular season, it might be best to avoid the crowds and go from October through to April.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach here is small and not particularly wide and is surrounded by rocky moles. If you come out of season and on a weekday you are sure to pick your spot. To get here you simply head south from Valencia towards Denia. Drive north of the harbor and here you will find the beach.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The wind here is predominantly westbound, however between the months of May to October it can be any direction. The windspeed is about 5 knots and is fairly consistent throughout the year. The water quality is slightly cloudy and is shallow for the first 150 meters or so then it becomes flat to choppy. Behind the mole is where you will find the flattest water. The water temperature hovers around 16 degrees in the winter and 26 degrees in the summer so you can get away with a shorty or shorts most of the year and a normal long wetsuit during the winter.

Facilities

Parking

There is plenty of parking here but not a great deal else. For all your needs including some excellent nightlife, then take the short drive into Denia.

Safety

Underwater obstacles

Keep an eye out for wind breakers and groynes scattered along the beach and also watch out for that rocky mole located to the south of the harbor. In the summer look out for swimmers and bathers in the water.
